Web Design

Below are descriptions and links to some websites that I’ve built. As web site software has got easier to use, the tendency recently is for the site owners to maintain sites themselves and this is the case with most of the sites listed here. Recently I’ve concentrated on helping other photographers put their portfolios online.

Never Missed a BeatNever Missed a Beat
This site went live in the summer of 2011. Using WordPress, NMaB is a “sparkling brand new magazine for women who need something fresh to read”.

robert viglaskyRobert Viglasky Photography
We updated this site to WordPress in 2011 so that Robert can easily add or change photos and galleries. The theme is custom-made based on Robert’s design. He uses a Lightroom export plugin to handle the images, captions and thumbnails which makes the whole process very streamlined. We also made a second site, using the same theme, for his wedding and portrait work.

Flaim ElectronicsFlaim Electronics
This is a relatively simple site for an electronics consultant and distributor that launched in 2011. The site will grow as the business expands with changes implemented by the end user via the CMS (Content Management System).

London Exam MarkingLondon Exam Marking Services
The London Exam Marking Services website launched in September ’09. This is a fairly simple design promoting a very specific service. I was responsible for the overall design (from a WordPress theme), colours, logo, and most of the photography. As this is the WordPress site the client is responsible for updating and adding to the content.

CMT buttonCabaret Mechanical Theatre
This site was relaunched using WordPress as a CMS (Content Management System) in September 2008.

Aug. 1999. Star Site of the Month in Computer Buyer Magazine’s pick of online museums and galleries: “If, like our editor, you like the sound of a clockwork cat-kicker, this site’s for you. The Cabaret Mechanical Theatre is a funny and absorbing collection of mechanical toys. At its web site, youngsters can learn about the basic engineering principles involved, and find out how to make their own. Attractive, well presented and easy to get around (with a host of handy links), this site’s a sure fire hit with boffins of the future (and cat haters).”

Cabaret Mechanical Theatre is a museum of automata (mechanical sculpture). As well as designing the site, I built QTVR Object Movies, Flash and GIF animations for their on-line exhibitions.

Mario Mage PhotographyMario Magé
This site is mainly Flash-based with a simple CMS (Content Management System) which makes it easy for Mario to change or add new pictures and edit the text and also ensures that the text is indexed by search engines. He is using the site to display his wedding, coporate, kids and pets photography. The text on the site is edited by logging in and working in a browser window. Images are uploaded or deleted via the control panel provided by his web hosting company.

Quentin Ball PhotographyQuentin Ball Photography
This went live in Feb. 2006. It’s a relatively simple site promoting the Architectural, Landscape and Fine Art photography of Quentin Ball.

IMR logoInstitute of Musical Research
This site was designed to work within Typo3 (another content management system) so that the site owners can maintain and update it themselves. It went live in May 2006. To comply with the needs of web accessibility standards the design is achieved through the use of templates and CSS. It has a CSS style sheet switching option to give a high visibility view of the site. I was responsible for the overall design, colours, logo, etc., but not the photography.
