Products from a Former Life

P1000010Since it’s too late to think about shopping I thought that now would be a good time to mention a few items which have recently become available again. Three videos that I made for Cabaret Mechanical Theatre are now on DVD and a book that I co-authored has recently been reprinted. The book is about basic mechanisms and making things move – it’s available directly from CMT, or from amazon in the UK and now from Make:, the Make: Magazine people, in the USA. The DVDs are available from CMT as follows: Cabaret Mechanical Video, How to Make Automata and my favourite, Made in Stithians.

Three Bollards

Three BollardsI went to see William Eggleston in the Real World at the Barbican but the DVD skipped, eventually stalled and the show was abandoned. Michael Almereyda said it was “nobody’s fault”. The discussion between him, Martin Parr and Val Williams was pretty lame too. There should have been a riot or at least the offer of a refund. (Update: the Barbican organised a free re-screening)

Film Showing

Two New Yellow LinesMechanisms, a short film I directed is showing as part of the “Tinkering!” festival at the Exploratorium in San Francisco on Saturday 24th July at 2pm. The calendar listing doesn’t mention it but I’m told it’s definitely on. I also did some work on the Fax Machine episode of The Secret Life of Machines that they are showing in the same set (I shot some video in Paris which got badly transferred to film). There are lots of other good movies in the festival so it’s worth clicking through their calendar if you’re in that part of the world.
